Engineering student Jodi is in pole position
A Rugby College full-time engineering student will have an experience to remember after picking up a prize of a work placement and guaranteed job interview with Formula 1 power unit manufacturer Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP).
Jodi Snelson, 19, a first year full-time engineering student, held off competition from fellow engineering students from Rugby and Warwick Trident Colleges, to be selected by her tutors as the highest achieving student on the course.
Lee Walters, Employee Development Manager at HPP presented Jodi with her prize, which included a £500 cheque, framed certificate signed by Managing Director (MD) Andy Cowell, and a guaranteed place at their assessment centre for new apprentices in the spring 2019.
Mercedes-AMG HPP, based in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, design and manufacture Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 racing engines and hybrid systems for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport.
Lee Walters, Employee Development Manager for Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains said: “Working in Formula 1 is not only exciting but also very demanding, so it’s essential we attract highly motivated and talented individuals to join our Advanced Apprenticeship Programme. We’re excited to be working with the College to inspire the next generation of technicians.”
Jodi said, “I was truly shocked at winning this award, but very excited about the work experience opportunity and I hope that in the future my hard work may lead to a career with Mercedes-AMG HPP. I have put a lot of effort in with my studies and it is amazing to be recognised.”
Gary Elson, Curriculum Leader for Engineering, WCG said, “Congratulations to Jodi, who has excelled in all aspects of the course and has already completed all her first year units at Distinction level. She was nominated for this award from all the full-time engineering students at Rugby College and Warwick Trident College.
