VINTAGE TEA ROOMS UNVEILED IN TOWN CENTRE THANKS TO @PrincesTrust

A new vintage tea rooms is to be unveiled in Telford, thanks in part to the hard work of students from City of Wolverhampton College.

The new café at Meeting Point House will open on June 18 after a group of 12 students on a Prince’s Trust programme spent two weeks transforming an extension at the community centre into an inviting venue to relax and refresh.

The students painted walls, skirting boards and doors, and transformed old wooden furniture with the help of pastel chalk paints in a range of colours.

They raised the cash needed for the work by holding a raffle and bag packing at a local supermarket.

Team Leader Michael Hindley said: “The team has worked extremely hard in getting this vintage tea room ready in time for the big launch. It’s taken a lot of hard work and determination but the students kept coming in everyday and putting in the effort – they should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved.”

The Prince’s Trust Team programme gives unemployed young people aged 16 to 25 the chance to learn new skills and improve their confidence and self-esteem through a range of outdoor activities, community work and work experience.

During the programme the young people take part in an action-packed residential week, organise fundraising activities, carry out voluntary work in the community and benefit from two weeks’ work experience with a local employer.

Participants also get help with job searches, writing a CV and interview skills, and will gain national qualifications in first aid and food safety and certificates in employability, team work and community skills.

For more information on the Team programme contact The Prince’s Trust team at City of Wolverhampton College on 01902 836000. The college welcomes offers from individuals and businesses to support the delivery of the programme by offering work experience, mock interviews or voluntary projects.
