.@S_ERC hosts Project Based Learning Showcase

Students from across South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Campuses had been working tirelessly on innovative projects since the beginning of term.

The students recently got the opportunity to display their projects at a Project Based Learning Showcase held at the colleges Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtowards campuses.

All Full-Time students participate in Project Based Learning (PBL) activities at the college as it enables them to develop skills such as commercial acumen, communication, problem solving and teamwork and aims to inspire knowledge, raise aspirations, confidence and employability.

The projects were very innovative and included ideas from mobile apps, to events planning. Staff and students who attended were very impressed with the standard of work the students had completed.

SERC Head of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, Kieran McKenna said

“At SERC we are committed to providing every student with the opportunity to improve their employability skills. Giving our students the edge is a key priority as we seek to provide students with a range of opportunities to gain better skills and real-life experiences.

SERC Principal and chief executive Ken Webb said “All the projects the students have undertaken this year have been remarkable. Employers have informed us that a qualification is now not enough and students need to have much more in terms of skills and experience.

Project Based Learning was created with the aim of helping create an exciting and enjoyable way of learning about the College, while also helping students make new friends in a fun and informal manner.
