Sky’s the limit for Jordan as he secures advanced apprenticeship with @RoyalMail

HARD work and dedication has paid off for South Eastern Regional College (SERC) electrical engineering student Jordan Brush from Dromore who has secured an apprenticeship with Royal Mail, following a rigorous application and selection process.

19-year-old Jordan applied for the advanced apprenticeship programme after he saw it advertised online. Following a grilling day-long, three stage selection process involving an online application form, online tests and an hour-long interview at an assessment centre, Jordan said he was ecstatic when he got the phone call to say that he was successful. He was up against 250 other applicants.

Jordan, a former Banbridge Academy pupil, is looking forward to starting his new role as an advanced maintenance and mechatronics engineer in September, which is a three-year programme. In year one, Jordan will be based in Blackburn, England and will attend college once a week as part of his training.

Jordan said: “I always knew that I wanted to study engineering. After completing lower sixth I decided to come to SERC rather than continue to study subjects that I had no interest in. I saw the course advertised online and I met with my tutor Declan Black who explained the course to me and the different modules I would be studying throughout the two-year course.

“My mum and dad are delighted that I have got this amazing start to my career. If I hadn’t have come to SERC I wouldn’t be in this exciting position, so I would really encourage others to consider SERC as a first option. It’s the best thing I ever did.”

Jordan continued “It was thanks to my course at SERC that I was able to answer the very challenging competency-based interview questions. I talked specifically about a parking sensor that I developed as part of my studies which they seemed to like. I am delighted that I have been lucky enough to be chosen as an advanced apprentice. I am looking forward to getting started.”

Course tutor Declan Black explains: “I am delighted that Jordan has secured such a prestigious apprenticeship. The selection process is challenging and intensive, so he really should be extremely proud.”
