BPP University plans major medical expansion as it launches School of Nursing

BPP University is to expand its healthcare offering and establish a School of Nursing. The new School, which opens today (23 April 2018), will be committed to delivering relevant nursing education that provides an equal balance between academic theory and practical learning.

The School will cater to the increasing demand for nursing qualifications and provide courses from undergraduate to Master’s level in a variety of areas, including adult and child nursing, mental health and learning disabilities.

Professor Lynne Gell, who has been appointed as the new Dean of the Nursing School, said that:

“this is an extremely exciting time for us. Nursing will be a huge focus for BPP, and it is imperative that we continue to combine the academic excellence of a university with a real-life focus for our students.

“Our ultimate aim is to produce talented healthcare professionals who can meet the needs and emotional demands of their key patient groups. Each and every one of our nursing and healthcare courses will place service users, patients, friends, families and carers at their heart, and are designed to help learners and organisations achieve their vision and deliver exceptional care.”

Professor Gell said the health sector was facing enormous recruitment challenges and that flexibility and innovation were key to meeting them:

“Providers are under no illusions about the scale of the task ahead and many are thinking imaginatively and flexibly about how they can fill their talent pipeline. I’m glad to say that BPP with its expertise in such areas as virtual learning and apprenticeships is in an excellent position to help them.”

Professor Gell has worked with key partners in the NHS and private healthcare sector since 2011 to develop a portfolio that is not only academic but professionally relevant. BPP University was recently granted approval from the NMC to offer nursing BSc Degrees and Nursing Degree Apprenticeships. The new School, dedicated to nursing and healthcare, promises to provide all students with a patient-focused, professionally relevant nursing education.

Judith Graham, Deputy Director for Organisational Development at Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) said:

“It’s exciting to be playing a part in the opening of this new School of Nursing in Doncaster. The school is based on our hospital site which is excellent for the students involved. We will be closely working with BPP to offer the students relevant and hands on work experience to support their academic study.”

BPP will remain working with industry leaders, whilst also continuing to partner with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation (DBTH) in order to create placements whilst supporting the development of (DBTH) staff and local residents in careers in health and social care.
