MANVIR PASSES PILOT TEST WITH FLYING COLOURS!
A Travel & Aviation student from Sandwell College has passed her pilot’s test with flying colours and is now on her way to starting her dream career.
Manvir Kaur, aged 19, has been selected to start her EASA Integrated Pilot Training next month with Airways Aviation.
She was invited to the London Oxford Airport-based Academy, where she passed a Compass/Aptitude assessment and face-to-face interview.
Manvir said: “I was really nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, but I’m so happy to have successfully completed both stages and earned my place on the Elite Pathways Programme.
“I’ve always thought that you had to have A* grades in maths and English, and some academies ask for a university background.
“When I left school I wanted to be in an airline related profession and my lecturer encouraged me to apply for this programme. Only three per cent of pilots are women and it’s always been my dream to be one.”
The full-time programme is designed to take students from no aviation experience to qualified commercial pilot.
After six months of study, Manvir will continue her training in Spain and Holland, and she hopes to become a pilot for British Airways or Virgin.
The course syllabus was created with leading airlines and covers the rigorous technical requirements of pilot training.
The academy’s modern facilities include Garmin 1000 equipped DA40/42 aircraft fleet.
Sandwell College’s Head of Travel, Scott Thomas, added: “This is a massive success story for the Travel department, and something which doesn’t happen often. We’re very proud of Manvir.”
