Staff and student honoured by High Sheriff
Sean Power-Tarbatt, a Tameside College student and Syliva Knowles, an employee of Tameside College have both been given awards by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester for their ‘services and contributions to the community’.
Sean, a hospitality and catering student, was awarded for his progression during his course and attitude to work. Sylvia, a learning support officer at the college, was also given an award for going above and beyond in supporting students throughout their time at the college.
Gerry Yeung, the current High Sheriff, saw first-hand the work Sean and Sylvia had been involved in and chose to reward their successes after a visit to Tameside College last year.
The ceremony which takes place annually, was held at the Yang Sing restaurant in the Trafford Centre on Monday 9th April. Each year the outgoing High Sheriff honours those he has met throughout his time in office, with a range of people, organisations and charities being recognised.
Sean, said: “I am honoured and amazed to have to have won this award, I couldn’t believe that the High Sheriff picked me. Sylvia, who has supported me throughout my time at Tameside College, is fantastic and I don’t think I could have done so well without her.”
Jackie Moores, principal of Tameside College, said: “I am extremely proud of Sean and Sylvia, and all that they have achieved. The awards they received were very well deserved and they are a credit to the college. Thank you to Gerry Yeung the High Sheriff for including the college in his awards.”
