The Education Committee published its report, Value for money in higher education, on 5 November 2018. This document sets out the government’s response to the committee’s report and the steps we are taking to ensure value for money in higher education.

The Education Committee questioned Office for Students (OfS) Chair Sir Michael Barber as part of the inquiry into value for money in higher education.
The new regulator for higher education in England starts work on 1 April and Sir Michael is likely to face questioning on the future of tuition fees and support for disadvantaged students.
Also giving evidence will be Sir Ian Diamond, author of a review into higher education funding in Wales, as well as Professor Anna Vignoles from the University of Cambridge and Stuart Cannell, a member of the OfS student panel.
In addition to asking witnesses about the role of the OfS and lessons that could be learnt from the review of higher education in Wales, members will also have the chance to discuss recent research on graduate earnings.
