Cardiff and Vale College first in Wales to have bilingual consultation forms with VTCT
Cardiff and Vale College has become the first college in Wales to launch VTCT bilingual consultation forms in its salons in Barry and Cardiff.
VTCT is the specialist awarding organisation, offering vocational and technical qualifications in a range of sectors. Consultation sheets are designed for someone in a salon or spa environment to find out what each client really wants.
Rachel Jones, CAVC Deputy Head of Hair and Beauty, said: “Having bilingual consultation sheets gives the learners and customers the opportunity to develop their Welsh language. We have a number of Welsh speaking learners and clients and they can now undertake their consultation forms in the medium of Welsh.”
The College’s Welsh Curriculum Co-ordinator, Nicola Buttle, worked in collaboration with VTCT to create the forms. She said: “It is fantastic to gain full support from our awarding body who work nationally with other colleges. VTCT has been great to work with as they fully understood our commitment to providing our clients service in their first language.”
Welsh speaking students launched the forms this week. Level 2 Beauty student Jade Oyler Allen said: “I thought I was going to leave school and not use my Welsh again but this has given me the opportunity to maintain my Welsh while learning.”
The college offers a range of Hair, Beauty and Complementary Therapy services at its Academi salon in the Barry Campus and urbasba in City Campus in Cardiff.
