Integrated Communities Strategy green paper

The Integrated Communities Strategy green paper invites views on the government’s vision for building strong integrated communities where people – whatever their background – live, work, learn and socialise together, based on shared rights, responsibilities and opportunities.

The green paper sets out an ambitious programme of actions we propose to take across government to deliver this vision at the local and national level.

The Government want to hear from individuals, communities and organisations about the most effective ways to address integration challenges.

Stephen Evans, Chief Executive, Learning and Work Institute, said:

“English language skills are central to life and work so the Government is right to focus on better support for the 770,000 people who lack these skills. But we need to will the means as well as the ends. The budget for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) has been cut significantly and we lack a strategy for engaging adults in learning and ensuring high quality provision. So we need investment in the ESOL workforce and infrastructure and to find new ways to engage people and deliver learning.”
