High calibre trainees selected for pre-employment programme

A group of eleven trainees have been selected to undertake an intense pre-employment training programme at South Eastern Regional College (SERC). SERC in conjunction with the Department for the Economy has developed a bespoke training programme to recruit and train computing lecturers for the college.

The training is being delivered at SERCs SPACE Campus in Bangor.

Targeting third level computing graduates, the Bridge to Employment programme is a 6-week customised training programme which gives people who are currently unemployed or who want to return to work the skills they need to compete for new job opportunities. The training will have a strong focus on programming, cross platform mobile application development, games design, python and teaching practice. 

SERC deputy head of school for computing and engineering Gary Ritchie congratulated the participants on being accepted onto the course and explained: “Through our collaboration with the Department for the Economy we want to sustain a pool of high quality talent that can support our goals.

“Candidates who successfully complete the training will be interviewed with a view to be offered permanent employment within SERC as a lecturer in computing.”
