Students support two local charities
Throughout November & December, Shipley College Travel & Tourism students organised collections to support two local charities, Bradford Nightstop and the Yorkshire Children’s Trust. Staff and students at the College donated children’s toys, books and clothes, plus toiletries and warm socks.
On Friday 8th December, both charities were welcomed in to the College to receive the donations from the students. Representatives from the charities thanked the students for all their hard work and effort.
The students will use this fundraising activity towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award and add it to their CVs.
Simon Widdop, Charity Manager for the Yorkshire Children’s Trust, said ‘The toys that have been collected from the college today will be wrapped by our Christmas Elves to be distributed to Bradford, Dewsbury, Calderdale and Pinderfields Hospitals. They will be given to the children who are in over Christmas, to help bring a smile. I would like to thank each and every student and member of staff who has donated towards the appeal. They have helped make a real difference.
Chris Watson and Graham Glover from Bradford Nightstop also added, ‘The items that have been collected today will be passed on to our hosts who voluntarily have young people stay with them. We take the simplest of things for granted, such as a shower or deodorant, or even a pair of thick socks, but to our young people, it means a lot to them. We just want to say thank you to the students for their hard work collecting everything that will make a difference to the young people on the streets of Bradford.’
Well done and thank you to everyone who has donated to these worthy charities and helped make a difference to children and young people’s lives this Christmas.
Bradford Nightstop have been established for over 23 years supporting young adults aged 16 – 25 who are sleeping rough or in an unsafe place in Bradford.
The Yorkshire Children’s Trust was founded in 2011 to help children & their families cope with the emotional and financial strain of life-changing illnesses.
