Olympian sprints into Tameside College

Kelly Massey, bronze medallist at the 2016 summer Olympics, visited sports students at Tameside College to talk about the demands of being an elite athlete.  She is currently touring primary schools, secondary schools and colleges as part of a campaign by Tameside School Sports Partnership.

Kelly represented GB in Rio de Janeiro where she won a bronze medal as part of the women’s 4×400 metres relay.  It followed a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the same format in 2014.

Kelly said: ‘”I am visiting schools with my company Elite Margins to talk to students about the sacrifices and lifestyle choices athletes need to make if they want to be the best.  The talks are designed to inspire, inform and motivate students to make lifestyle choices that will contribute to their development.”

Luke Podmore, sports development officer at Tameside College said: “We are delighted to welcome someone of Kelly’s stature to Tameside College. She is an inspiration to the students.  It shows, that with dedication and commitment, most things are possible in sport. Her visit to the college will be remembered for a long time.”
