Accounting students meet best in the business

Professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) visited Tameside College to talk to students about career opportunities they offer to young people.

Jack and Alex from the company’s assurance department, which deals with everything from accountancy to risk management, visited business and accounting students to talk about opportunities and how they have progressed at PwC.

They introduced the company’s ‘Flying Start’ degree programme, which offers work experience, a university placement and the promise of a job after four years’ study.

Both Jack and Alex will graduate next year as fully qualified chartered accountants as a result of the ‘Flying Start’ project.

Catherine Andrews, business and accounting teacher at Tameside College, said: “The students enjoyed meeting Jack and Alex who gave a really inspiring speech about what can be achieved if you put in hard work. I hope that our students will now consider the ‘Flying Start’ programme as an option for when they leave college.“

Rute Sanumbila, business and accounting student at Tameside College,said: “It was good to meet Jake and Alex. I was surprised with how much they had already done in their careers considering their age. It made me think about the routes they took as an option for myself. Plus, it was really useful to see how PwC do things, especially since they are one of the biggest accounting firms in the UK.”
