Leeds City College scoops national Silver Teaching Awards
The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) team and Sport Lecturer, Raza Siddique, at Leeds City College have won prestigious Silver Pearson Teaching Awards at a glittering ceremony in London.
The awards, that took place on 22 October, are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, created to recognize the life-changing impact they can have on the lives of the young people they teach.
The ESOL team works with large volumes of marginalised learners and minority groups and provides transformative experiences through qualification routes, enrichment, celebrating diversity and personalised learning towards outstanding achievement rates. The team has been described as ‘high performing, aspirational for their own practice and their students’ achievements and progression’.
Raza Siddique was termed ‘a high achiever and has a fantastic approach to working with young people and a unique way of relating to every student he encounters’.
Held at The East Wintergarden, ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’ will be broadcast on 29 October by the BBC as a showcase of excellence in education.
Bill Jones, Deputy CEO Curriculum and Quality at Leeds City College, said: “This is a remarkable achievement which is testament to the exceptional teaching at the college.
“We pride ourselves on offering innovative teaching and learning and we’re extremely proud of the ESOL team and Raza Siddique for being recognised as outstanding local heroes of education.”
