Fast Lane to Engineering Apprenticeship

Bedford College students have excelled into the fast lane towards careers in engineering following an end of year ceremony to celebrate their achievements of the past year.

In ‘pole position’ was Benjamin Burke who won the Mercedes AMG HPP Student of the Year award. This included a “golden ticket” chance to impress bosses and become an apprentice for the Formula One company plus £500.

Swiss student Luca Stalder was presented with the Excellence in Engineering Theory prize and the Most Improved Learner prize was awarded to Georgina Sleeman. 

The awards were presented at an end of year ceremony held at the college and was attended by guest of honour, Lee Walters, Employee Development Manager for Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains based in Brixworth, Northamptonshire. Lee spoke of the fantastic opportunities available at his company where apprentices are able to work with some of the industry’s talented engineers. The Bedford College Group is one of only a few further education providers in the UK targeted by the company for potential trainees.

Head of Engineering Steve Croft congratulated all the students on their progress towards the world of work where technical skills are very much in demand.

Bedford College is a premier provider of engineering training in the South East Midlands region alongside Tresham College it’s merger partner based in Northamptonshire.

The Bedford College Group has a variety of specialist engineering provision including the National College for Motorsport and a dedicated centre for engineering apprentices from top companies in Brunel Road, Bedford. Work is underway on a £5m Advanced Engineering Centre on the Bedford College site where students will be trained to degree level using the latest technology including robotics.
