Rugeley pupil chosen to represent England in Dance World Cup

A talented Rugeley schoolgirl is celebrating after she was chosen to represent England in the Dance World Cup.

Tia Douton, a Year 8 pupil at The Hart School, has been dancing with the Ellise Locke Dance Company for just three years.

And alongside her fellow team members, Tia was shortlisted from no less than 3,000 entries across England to participate in a Dance World Qualifier.

Now the 12-year-old is “thrilled” to reveal that she’ll represent Team England at the Dance World Cup – which was won by Team England last year out of the 54 competing countries – this summer.

Last year, Tia achieved 11 medals consisting of Gold, Silver and Bronze across many national competitions, so hopes are high for a medal winning performance in this year’s World Cup.

Tia, who has been dancing with the Hednesford dance company since January 2019, will be one of seven Elise girls representing Great Britain in the Dance World Cup, which is due to be held in Northern Spain between June 24 and July 2.

Ms Sandham said: “A huge well done to Tia.

“We are super proud of her impressive achievements outside of school, and we are excited to see what she achieves in the Dance World Cup this year and in the future.”

The Hart School is no stranger to its pupils excelling in the world of sports with many other students who have represented Great Britain, including in karate and kickboxing.

To celebrate Tia’s achievements, the proud young pupil was treated to a hot chocolate with school Principal Ms Rachael Sandham.
