Outstanding grade awarded as Loughborough College celebrates major report

Loughborough College is celebrating its latest report from Ofsted – with the education watchdog recognizing “high quality teaching” at the College and rating it Good overall and Outstanding for apprenticeships.

On awarding the top grade for Apprenticeships, Ofsted said the apprentices “exceed expectations and progress to higher-level apprenticeships, further training and education or sustained employment.”

Leaders, managers and staff at Loughborough College were described as “very successful in improving the progress of current learners” with “high-quality teaching” enabling “practical and written work of a high standard”.

Learners and apprentices were found to be “highly motivated” and developed “good personal, social and employability skills, making good progress in English and mathematics”.

Sport study programmes and apprenticeships at the College were particularly praised, “where managers have formed particularly strong links with national governing bodies.”

Loughborough College Acting Principal Colin Butler said: “The Outstanding achieved for our apprenticeship programmes and the overall praise from Ofsted for the quality not only of our teaching and learning but also for the development, behaviour and welfare of our students is testament to our staff.

“Our College purpose is to improve lives, develop knowledge and generate opportunities. A fantastic team effort enables us to offer our learners an exceptional experience and Ofsted has highlighted how well this sets our students up for the future.”

Audrey Traynor, Chair of Governors at Loughborough College, added: “We are delighted that Ofsted has recognized the high level of quality we have sustained.

“The award we have received reflects the dedication and expertise of all our staff and only adds to our momentum.

“Loughborough College has ambitious plans for development and growth and is already well underway with an exciting strategy to take us to 2020 and beyond.”

Excellent teaching and learning at Loughborough College has this week been rewarded for a second time with the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework awarding silver to the College, recognizing that “students from all backgrounds achieve excellent outcomes with regards to progression and employment or further study.”
