SIX APPRENTICES ENGINEER AWARD SUCCESS

APPRENTICES from Leeds College of Building scooped six top awards at this year’s Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) Yorkshire Region Awards.

The BESA Awards recognise apprentices and employers within the building services industry who have enjoyed outstanding achievements over the past year.  A number of regional awards take place throughout the UK and the winners will now be entered into the organisation’s national awards.

Tom Connor from Sheffield, who works for Mitton Mechanical Services, saw off fierce competition to win the prestigious Apprentice of the Year award, as well as being presented with the Heating and Ventilation Apprentice of the Year prize.  Jack Dinnewell from Selby, who works at NG Bailey, was highly commended in the same category. 

Tom Bottomley from Halifax who works at GB Air Control was named Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Apprentice of the Year.  Leeds engineer Paul Falkingham, who works at NG Bailey, won the Level 4 Apprentice of the Year Award and Grant Hudson from Sheffield, who works at SES Engineering Services won the Citizenship Award.

Ian Billyard, Principal at Leeds College of Building, which is the UK’s only specialist further education construction college, says: “For our Apprentices to dominate these awards, taking all but three of the available prizes, is a wonderful achievement for everyone concerned.  It also reinforces the high standard of training that we are renowned for, and we’re delighted for all the winning Apprentices who have clearly worked extremely hard to achieve this success.”

Leeds College of Building offers more than 200 courses across a huge range of disciplines, and has built up a reputation for first-rate education and training.  The College is an approved Apprenticeship Levy provider and offers a wide range of Apprenticeships in traditional trades and technical Apprenticeship routes, together with two Higher Level Apprenticeships in Construction Management (Sustainability) covering four Pathways (Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering) and Facilities Management which offer university equivalent work based education.
