Students Raise Money For Weston Hospicecare And Cancer Charity

A massive fundraising effort by Weston College students has resulted in a £7,000 donation split between the Teenage Cancer Trust and Weston Hospicecare. 

The annual fundraising event saw faculties across the College compete to raise the most money for charity and for a chance to win the College’s Charity Cup.

This year students sold cakes, held raffles, busked, wore fancy dress and the College’s hair and beauty students opened a pop-up salon in the Knightstone Campus atrium.

This year’s winner was the faculty of Business, Enterprise and Service Industries, which raised £2027.50.

Charlotte Porter, Regional Fundraiser for the Teenager Cancer Trust, said: “We are so grateful for the support from the College and its students, this money will really help support teenagers with cancer.”

Rachel Mansfield, Community Fundraiser for Weston Hospicecare, said: “It’s outstanding what the students have done for us again this year, it just gets better and better in terms of the support we receive.

“The money that they have raised will go a long way to helping those with life limited illnesses.”

Emma Rawlings, Weston College’s Head of Student Services, said: “This year’s Charity Cup total is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our students involved in raising money for such good causes. A huge congratulations to everyone who took part.”

The two charities were chosen by the College’s Students’ Union at the beginning of the year.
