Meet the apprentice: Ben from Pandrol

How long have you worked for Pandrol and where are you based?
I have been working for Pandrol since September 2021 at the Worksop factory.
What does your role involve?
I am an apprentice maintenance technician working towards my NVQ level 3 in mechatronics, my role currently involves working with the electrical engineers gaining useful knowledge along with practical skills that is required as part of my course.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy working in a challenging environment constantly learning from staff who have a wealth of knowledge.
Has anything surprised you?
Nothing has surprised me yet, but I am only in my first year. There is still a lot of time for surprises.
What have you learnt since working with Pandrol?
Team working has been a huge learning curve as we are only a small department, and we must communicate effectively to get the job done. Learning is evolving day-by-day as fresh challenges arise during each shift, having patience has been a great piece of advice to take on board.
What do you like most about working for Pandrol?
Two days are never the same, there are different challenges and learning curves to be had and the team I work with make it a great experience.
What are your future aspirations/plans?
I see a great career path at Pandrol, my aims are to gain my NVQ level 3 and then further my qualifications within the business (HNC/HND) whist continuing my career journey as a multi skilled engineer.
What do you like to do outside work?
I enjoy chilling out at the gym in my spare time along with playing golf at Dronfield golf club, playing off a handicap of eight.
