Minister praises Cambridge Regional College’s impressive record and high aspirations

Cambridge Regional College played host to one of the country’s leading politicians when minister David Lidington visited for a whirlwind tour – praising the college’s high aspirations and impressive record.

The leader of the House of Commons focused his visit on skills and apprenticeships taught at the college, touring the construction, engineering and catering departments and talking to students and apprentices.

He said he had enjoyed learning about the college’s impressive record on apprenticeships and high ambitions for the future.

“I feel very encouraged by the commitment of everyone at the college, both staff and students,” he said.

“There is a real sense of mission to make this college a national leader for quality of technical and vocational education. This is something the whole country needs if we are going to compete in a rapidly changing global economy.

“Above all there is a real message of hope and high aspiration for all young people.”

The minister was accompanied by Cambridge mayoral candidate James Palmer, and South Cambridgeshire councillor Ben Shelton, as well as Adrian Hames, Director of leading professional services firm WSP, who organised the visit.

During his tour, he chatted to plumbing apprentices Ashley Bowyer-Musukutwa, Josh Cruci and Jonathan Jenkins, met Catering student Mollie Baker – who later served him coffee and cakes in the college’s restaurant – and talked to student Elliott Errington about the work he was doing in the engineering workshops.
