LEEDS COLLEGE OF BUILDING LOOKS TO BUILD ON STAFF NUMBERS

LEEDS College of Building, which has over 7,000 students and operates across three campuses in Leeds, is expecting to recruit more than 80 new staff this year. The College, which is the UK’s only specialist further education construction college currently employs almost 400 staff and is hosting a recruitment fair later this month in order to attract new talent.

In 2015 work completed at Leeds College of Building’s brand new state of the art £17million education and training facility in Hunslet, South Leeds and plans are now progressing to build a second £13million campus alongside the existing one, both within walking distance to the train and bus stations.

Ian Billyard, Principal at Leeds College of Building, says: “Our College is going from strength to strength, there is currently a massive skills shortage within the Construction Sector and we are helping to train the next generation of skilled professionals for the Industry.

“We offer more than 200 courses across a huge range of disciplines, and have built a solid reputation for our first-rate education and training. We continually produce award-winning students and work with both small and large businesses across the UK, many through our numerous apprenticeship programmes.  As we keep attracting more students and develop new courses, we are keen to find more teaching and support staff to help us maintain and exceed the already high standards of education we offer.

“We are looking for people who are interested in being part-time or full-time lecturers in subjects like brickwork, carpentry and joinery, civil engineering, electrical, building services engineering, facilities management and plastering. Several of our current lecturers run their own businesses and work for us part-time, something which we hope to highlight at the recruitment fair. We are also looking for more Maths and English lecturers.”

In addition, the College wants to recruit assessors, personal advisers and learning mentors as well as administration and catering support staff.
