High flying students secure scholarship from Blackburn Sixth Form
Nine high achieving Blackburn students have secured scholarships to study at Blackburn Sixth Form.
Yaseen Padia, 16, Lauren Ankers, 16 Hussain Mughal, 17, Hamza Taher, 17, Kian Ozols, 16, Saba Ansari, 17, Hassan Ayaz, 16, Imaan Mahmood, 16, and Luqman Iqbal, 16, all received a £1000 scholarship after achieving outstanding grades in their GCSEs whilst at school.
All nine students received at least three grade eight’s and three grade seven’s in order to apply for a scholarship.
Students were encouraged to apply for the scholarship which has been provided by Blackburn Sixth Form to help students with extra costs such as travel and with purchasing educational materials.
Kian from Blackburn, who previously attended Darwen Vale High School has chosen to study Chemistry, Biology and Psychology A-Levels at Blackburn Sixth Form. He said: “I am looking forward to working as a student ambassador and taking part and helping at College events and Open Events.
“When you move from school to College things can be unfamiliar so I hope to be able to give new students the confidence to settle into College quickly.
“I did a lot of research before choosing Blackburn Sixth Form. Not only is the Sixth Form closest to me, but it’s also the best option for academic studies.”
Former Witton Park Academy student Yaseen Padia, who now studies Pyschology, Criminology and Chemistry A-Levels at Blackburn Sixth Form added: “The prestige and honour of achieving a scholarship will help with future applications to universities and job positions.
“I think that being an ambassador for Blackburn College and Sixth Form is an honour and a privilege and I’m delighted to have been given an Academic Scholarship.”
Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College, Dr Fazal Dad said: “I am delighted that we have offered academic scholarships up to £1,000 over two years in order to support students’ academic potential with a view to them achieving places at some of the UK’s top universities.
“We know that aspirations in the local area are high, and that these scholarships will provide extra financial security to students which will allow them to focus on their education and achieving their goals.”
Blackburn Sixth Form will be open on Tuesday 8th February for prospective students to come and have a look around and see first-hand the courses on offer and meet tutors.
