Aero Engineers of the future visit Cardiff and Vale College

A group of budding aircraft engineers have paid a visit to Cardiff and Vale College to see its internationally renowned aerospace facilities.

Pupils from Oldcastle Primary School in Bridgend visited the College’s International Centre for Aerospace Training (ICAT), based at Cardiff International Airport. The schoolchildren were given the full ICAT experience as part of their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Week programme.

During the visit they were given the opportunity to take off from and land at Cardiff International Airport on the College’s flight simulators and had a full demonstration and display from the College’s Flight Safety Officers in its Boeing 737 fuselage ‘Classroom in the Sky’. The Oldcastle pupils were also given a full tour of ICAT’s hangar and workshop areas to have a chance to play with College’s Bulldog and Jetstream aircraft.

“It was a great pleasure to welcome the future of the Aerospace sector to ICAT,” Aircraft Engineering Lecturer Chris Pilcher said. “The students from Oldcastle school asked lots of questions and really engaged in the afternoon’s activities. It was great to accommodate them and hopefully inspire the engineers and aircrew of the future.”
