WorldSkills success for Cardiff and Vale College students
Cardiff and Vale College students are among the very best in UK following a string of successes in the WorldSkills competition.
More than 500 young people took part in competitions covering 61 different skills from construction to hospitality over three days at the Skills Show in Birmingham in front of thousands of visitors.
Christopher Northfield won the gold medal in the WorldSkills Web Design competition. Competitors received a professional brief and had to design a user-friendly website from conception to completion in a live competition.
Debbie Jones, CAVC Dean of Services to People, said: “My heartfelt congratulations to our learner Christopher Northfield who won the gold in Web Design in the WorldSkills competition in Birmingham. The IT staff and myself are hugely proud of Christopher’s achievement which is a total credit to his hard work and determination.
“To have the confidence to compete on a UK-wide scale really takes some doing. I hope this success inspires Christopher to challenge himself further and we all wish him continued success in the future.”
Meanwhile, Christopher Jones and Theodorous Tsouknidas brought home the silver and bronze respectively in the Auto Refinishing competition. This competition, known as Car Painting in the WorldSkills International competition focuses on the essential requirements for a successful career as an automotive refinishing specialist.
CAVC Dean of Technology and Creative Industries Ian Cowell said: “Congratulations to both Chris and Theo, they faced the competition with strength, determination and confidence, using their skills and knowledge to complete the tasks to the highest standards. May this success lead to greater achievements in the years to come – we at CACV are extremely proud of their excellent achievements.”
