ED6 Students Bag 100% A-level Pass Rate

A-level students at East Durham Sixth Form (ED6) have celebrated with family, classmates and teachers after receiving their excellent exam results and achieving a 100% pass rate.

The sixth form in Peterlee, which is part of East Durham College, has achieved the impressive pass rate milestone within four years of opening its door back in September 2012.

Principal at East Durham College, Suzanne Duncan, praised the students and the staff at ED6 for all their hard work and achieving these impressive results.

Suzanne said: “On behalf of myself and the board of governors, I would like to congratulate all the students and staff on achieving a 100% pass rate.

“The results have been hard earned and are well deserved; the students and their families should be incredibly proud of their achievements.”

The college achieved a pass rate of 98.1 and 98.2 for the last two years, which was above the national average, and staff are delighted to see the pass rate continue to rise.

Jacky Owen, head of ED6, added: “Our students have more than met the challenges presented to them and I was thrilled to see their reactions when they collected their results.

“As well as the fantastic pass rate, we are delighted that there was also further growth in the number of students receiving high grades giving them access to their first choice universities.

“Many of our students are now going off to their chosen universities including the likes of Durham, Leeds, Northumbria, Bradford and Chester to study on degree courses such as pharmacy, genetics, forensic science, law, journalism, biomedical science and engineering. Well done to every one of them.”

One such student is Lauran Cook, 19, from Peterlee, who studied sociology, psychology and English language A-levels and has been awarded a place at Northumbria University to study psychology after receiving her fantastic results of A, A, B.

Lauran was absolutely buzzing when we got the news and said: “My results are great and I am really proud of what I have achieved at ED6.
“Some of the exams I sat at the end of the year were really tough so it makes my results today really special, to know my hard work paid off.

“I am really excited now to move on to a psychology degree at Northumbria University in September.”

Meanwhile at AS-level, ED6 students were successfully getting to grips with the new specifications. One such student was Dylan McCallum, 16, from Shotton Colliery, who gained three A grades; in chemistry, biology and physics.

Dylan said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my results but this is only the first step towards my ambition of going on to continue my study of sciences at university once I am finished at ED6.

“I know it’s going to be hard work but I’m really looking forward to returning to ED6 in September to complete my A-levels.”

ED6 also offers a BTEC in Applied Science and those students showed a 100% high grade profile with students progressing on to university to study degrees such as pharmacy, molecular genetics and crime scene science.

East Durham Sixth Form offers a choice of over 20 A-level subjects as well as the highly popular BTEC in Applied Science. If you’d like further details about ED6 and studying A-levels at East Durham College, please visit www.ED6.ac.uk or call 0191 518 8222.
