Students help local church with conservation work

Barking & Dagenham College’s Uniformed Public Service students volunteering at St Peter and St Paul’s Church.

St Peter and St Paul’s Church grounds have been given an overhaul thanks to a group of students (@BarkingCollege).

The Uniformed Public Service students from Barking & Dagenham College, volunteered to help the church with its conservation project to clear the site.  The project was set up to once again provide the local community safe access to the church grounds and its wildlife areas.

Over a two-week period, the students really got stuck in.  They managed to clear two years’ worth of vegetation from the churchyard and nature reserve.

It was also a great opportunity to put into practice a lot of the skills the students have been working on such as teamwork, leadership and management and they did a great job!

The Dagenham Parish Vicar, Joel Edwards, commented:

“The  students have done fabulous work for their local community. All the students did a tremendous job.”

Gwen Edwards, Public Service Lecturer at the College added:

“All the Uniformed Public Service team at the College are very proud of the students for the work they’ve achieved. Their commitment and attitude to get the job done was a pleasure to see. We hope now that the local community will be able to enjoy the church yard and the wildlife areas once more.”
