UK Quality Mark for Weymouth College
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at Weymouth College (the College) following its review in March.
A team of QAA reviewers visited the College and judged that its academic standards, the quality and enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.
The review identifies two examples of good practice:
-
the established and active employer engagement in a wide range of provision that enables access to practitioners and supports the development of students’ academic, personal and professional potential
- the well-planned, clearly structured and supported opportunities for work experience which enable students to clarify their career choices.
The review made the following recommendations for improvements to Weymouth College:
-
ensure full alignment with the Pearson BTEC Centre Guide to Assessment and develop associated procedures
- provide prospective students with programme information that is fit for purpose to ensure that they can make informed choices.
Nigel Evans, Principal of Weymouth College, said: ‘We are very pleased that QAA have confirmed the quality of provision for higher education at Weymouth College. I am particularly pleased with the recognition of good practice relating to the high standards of employer engagement and work placement opportunities developed for students at Weymouth. This provides our students with industry standard experiences and enhances their employability as they move into their chosen careers.’
QAA’s Higher Education Reviews are carried out by experts from other universities and colleges. Every review team includes a student reviewer, because QAA believes that students should be partners in the quality assurance of their education.
The team that reviewed Weymouth College comprised Dr Mark Atlay (University of Bedfordshire), Polly Skinner (independent reviewer) and John Simpson (student reviewer, Blackpool and The Flyde College).
A successful review means that the College can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that it meets national requirements for standards and quality.
