College expands its apprenticeship team

Cambridge Regional College is expanding its apprenticeship business team in response to a boom in demand for apprentices.

The city’s growing economy is creating a big call for more apprentices to fill a skills gap in industries across the board, from construction to catering.

The college, one of the UK’s top 20 apprenticeship providers, wants to employ seven more business development and administration staff to boost its employer engagement team and help employers find the right apprentice.

Angela Hughes, head of apprenticeship programmes at Cambridge Regional College, said apprentices were becoming key to the region’s economy.

“Cambridge is growing at a very fast rate and employers are struggling to find the trained staff they need. More and more are coming to us to help them recruit apprentices to train on the job to fill that skills gap, and we need to grow our own team to answer the need,” she said.

“We’re looking for three new business development staff and four more staff with strong administrative skills, offering them a great opportunity to grow their careers at CRC.

“It’s a very exciting time to be working with employers and developing apprenticeship training and we’re looking forward to helping even more businesses with an expanded team.

“The Government is encouraging more businesses to take on apprentices and employers are realising the benefits they bring to the business – providing a trained, motivated workforce for the future.”

The college works with 1,500 employers across the region and currently has more than 4,500 apprentices in training.
