Is the next Mark Zuckerberg in Blackpool?
Computeach released findings on the top 50 emerging techie towns and cities in the UK today to gain more insight into the nation’s interest and involvement in the rapidly changing IT industry.
The findings were very interesting to say the least, particularly so for those in the FE field. Let’s take a look at the top 10 UK emerging towns from the original top 50 list:

Blackpool topped the chart which was based on hundreds of thousands of visits through to the website. This data was then filtered by each individual town and city and divided by the number of actual IT course enquiries from that location, leaving them with a metric which fundamentally shows keenness to learn more about progressing in a career in IT.
Computeach partnered up with leading job and recruitment site, Reed Online, in order to dig deeper. Reed published their top 10 cities and towns based on number of job applications through to their site:

Though Blackpool may not (currently) be the Silicon Valley of the UK, it does show that a lot of keen tech-minded people are looking to progress in the seemingly perpetually burgeoning field of technology.
Is the next Mark Zuckerberg in Blackpool? Time will only tell! As an FE insider have you found any location in particular to be more technically apt than any other or is it just pot luck? Does affluence affect ambition? Let us know.
