Musical Theatre and Acting students train to be professional scarers!

It’s not often you can say you’ve been trained by a professional scarer in the run up to Halloween.

But that’s exactly the case for students from The Hart School in Rugeley.

Musical Theatre and Acting students from Year 10 have taken part in a scare performing workshop led by professional scarer Eve Connolley.

Eve, who is now a trainee teacher in Performing Arts at the school, has a background of performing at theme parks and scary events, including at Alton Towers, Scarefest and Blackpool Dungeons.

Scaring skills to be put to the test at Deer Park Halloween event

The children are now busy preparing to put their newfound scaring skills into practice when they take part in the two-day Halloween “Trick or Treat Street” event at Deer Park in Hoar Cross.

Expected to be attended by almost 200 people, the event will be a spooky walk through woodland where the children will play various characters and interact with guests.

“An excellent experience” for Creative Education Trust students

The Hart School’s Performing Ars Teacher Charlotte Cowley said: “This is an excellent experience for our students, and it’s set to be a really exciting weekend.

“Our students will be placed behind doors in the woodland walk, dressed up as ‘naughty and nice’ characters and will interact with the children in a trick or treat style moment.

“During the walk, children will be collecting stamps to say they have met each character and will be searching for the page numbers of the spell book to help the witch re-order her muddled up book. If they collect all of these, they will receive a treat at the end.”

She added: “The workshops have been great fun and I’m sure that the students will thoroughly enjoy putting their new performance skills to the test during this spooky event.”

The pupils’ spooky performances will be toned down to suit younger children.

The Hart School, which is located on the edge of Cannock Chase in Penkridge Bank Road, is part of Creative Education Trust, who have invested £1.1m in improving the school’s facilities over the last two years.
