PHX Training supports supermarkets to hire for Christmas rush
A leading Cumbrian training provider has been selected to help Tesco recruit shopworkers ahead of the Christmas rush (@phxtraining).
PHX Training, which has offices in Barrow, Carlisle and Morecambe, is working with PeoplePlus to help the supermarket chain train up and fill job vacancies ahead of the festive season to prevent staff and food shortages.
PHX Training will run an intensive training session to help prospective employees complete qualifications in customer service, retail and Health and Safety before they undergo a four day work placement with a guaranteed job interview after the process.
The staff will complete their training and placements at Tesco superstores in Barrow, Carnforth, Whitehaven and Workington. Anybody interested in taking part in the scheme should contact their local Job Centre Plus.
Julie Torrance, Head of Employment and Training, said:
“Job vacancies might be high at the moment, but unemployment rates in Cumbria are still higher than before the pandemic. For a lot of people, they need to retrain in a new sector to find work, while employers are keen for people to start work as soon as possible.
“This intensive level of training can help dozens of people to quickly reskill and find work in a key role over the Christmas period, not only helping people to get back into employment but also help make sure our chains of food distribution can continue during a busy period.”
PHX Training has training centres in Barrow, Carlisle, Morecambe, Preston and Blackpool to help people complete training courses and apprenticeships to help them back into work.
PHX Training delivers government-backed initiatives including adult skills – Maths, English and vocational courses, NEET (not in education, employment or training), employability contracts and apprenticeships.
