Hat-trick of CDN award nominations for Fife College
@FifeCollege has been shortlisted in three categories at this year’s College Development Network (CDN) Awards.
The College has been named as finalists in the Innovation, Skills Development and Health and Wellbeing categories.
The CDN Awards celebrate the talent, skills and achievements of colleges, their staff, and learners from across Scotland, as well as giving an opportunity to showcase the innovation that exists within the sector.
In the Innovation category, the College has been shortlisted for their involvement in a digital manufacturing project led by the University of Cambridge which helps provide simple, low-cost digital solutions for small, local manufacturers.
The link up with the ‘Digital Manufacturing on a Shoestring’ project has seen a team from the College lead on a series of innovative projects throughout the year which were then showcased to manufacturers via an online employer engagement event.
Partnership work between the College, Fife Council, and the NHS to support senior phase pupils has been recognised in the Skills Development category.
Working with Council’s Education Services Team, along with Educational Psychologists, the College helped create a fully online course to help provide senior phase pupils with skills to support their mental and physical wellbeing. The course was rolled out to all 18 secondary schools in Fife, with scope to be expanded beyond the region.
The College’s prison-based learning staff have been shortlisted in the Health and Wellbeing category for the successful continuation of the learning and skills contract throughout the lockdown period.
Staff, who deliver learning in 13 centres located in Scottish Prison Service facilities throughout Scotland, created and distributed over 32,000 learner packs, 400 DVDs and podcasts utilising in-cell radio and TV, supporting the mental and physical health and wellbeing of learners.
Fife College Principal Dr Hugh Hall said:
“We are delighted that the College has been named as a finalist in three categories at this year’s College Development Network Awards.
“Despite the tough challenges of the pandemic over the past twelve months, our committed and dedicated staff went above and beyond to ensure we continued to deliver our curriculum.
“To have these efforts highlighted by these nominations is a great boost and testament to the work that we do every day at Fife College to support students while also playing a key role in local community.”
The winners of the CDN Awards 2021 will be announced at a celebration ceremony at Radisson Blu, Glasgow on Thursday 9 December 2021.
