Warwickshire College has become the first educational establishment in the UK to open an FE college in China as part of a new breakthrough project.
The China-UK National Skills College, a joint venture between Warwickshire College and Weifang Vocational College, has been officially unveiled in Quingzhou City, Shandong Province.
It will create up to 20,000 spaces for students to gain FE and HE level skills. The concept behind this is to train students in China backed by UK qualifications without having to come to the UK to study.
The project will be privately capitalised by the Beijing Guozheng International Education Investment Company.
Warwickshire College principal Mariane Cavalli said: “I am delighted that Warwickshire College is now establishing the first UK FE and skills presence in China.
“We will provide the leadership, curriculum expertise, staff training and on-going professional support to deliver internationally-recognised UK vocational qualifications for the benefit of many students in China.
“The venture also provides opportunities for our Chinese students to study here with us in the UK. But critically we will be playing an important part in building capacity in China to deliver high quality and relevant qualifications.”
Jazreel Goh, director of education marketing for the British Council in China, said: “We are really happy to see the setting up of this UK-China FE partnership and it is a great example of bringing education collaboration between UK-China colleges supported by private education investment.
“We look forward to the many opportunities and links that will be created through this partnership.”
