AoC President Ian Ashman discusses Mental Health in Colleges
Ian Ashman, AoC President discusses Mental Health in Colleges. Ian is calling for this year of his Presidency to be the Year of Mental Health. He explains that last year AoC ran a survey about mental health and wellbeing and 85% of College Principals reported an increase in students with mental health issues. The survey highlighted that poverty and the disadvantaged, pressure of exams and social media were all drivers to mental health issues in students in their colleges.
Ian also explains that even though there has been an increase in reports of mental health issues, they have not seen an increase in the level of support and Ian is keen to address this in his Presidency at the AoC.
